Howard's smooth style and outspoken demeanor have often been imitated but never equaled. From the very early ’70’s “Spoonfeather” band, when he was dubbed “The ...Mound of Sound”, to the mid ’80’s where he enjoyed much success as “The Gang of One” with the short lived ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd’ clone band “Freebird”, to two smash blues albums, “B.I.T.F.” and “Pack Your Bags” with Paul (Gabe) Gabriel & Blue in the Face (named after Howard), he remains a very powerful force on the local and national music scene.
In the late ’80’s he was discovered by “Shaboo Allstar” and “Original Blues Brother” Matt “Guitar” Murphy and spent the next 15 years as his lead vocalist until Matt’s untimely illness, which keeps him from performing to this day. Blues Brothers Steve (The Colonel) Cropper, “Blue Lou” Lou Marini and “Mr. Fabulous” Alan Rubins heard Howard sing with Matt’s band at Dan Ackroyd’s Chicago House of Blues and knew immediately that they had found their new 2cnd front man. Along with ’60’s Soul Sensation Eddie “Mr. Knock on Wood” Floyd, they make one dynamic duo onstage and off. By the way, that IS Howard singing Matt Murphy’s “Blues Don’t Bother Me” in the opening scene of “The Blues Brothers 2000” movie. Howard can be seen performing with his local group “Howie & the Soul Potatoes”.
