Consider The Source at The Acoustic
Friday May 1st
8PM Doors // 9PM Show // $12 ADV // $15 DOS
Sci-fi fusion trio Consider the Source defy easy categorization. If intergalactic energy beings, upon their initiation into an order of whirling dervishes, built a pan-dimensional booty-shaking engine powered by psychedelic math…it would sound like a cut-rate CTS cover band. With their blend of progressive rock and improvisatory jazz, soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles, CTS blends disparate elements into an utterly original whole. A relentless touring schedule has earned them a fervent following around the world, with fans ranging from jam-band hippies to corpse-painted headbangers. Their latest album, You Are Literally a Metaphor, is the culmination of a fifteen-year musical journey. Packed with the same fury and dazzling virtuosity of their previous work, Metaphor is also a portrait of three musicians reaching new levels of maturity.
The Furious Bongos play Zappa at The Acoustic
Wednesday April 29th
7pm Doors // 8pm Show // $15 ticket
We’re only in it for the money.
HAHAHAHA
Actually, we’re just a bunch of professional musicians with pretty diverse backgrounds who decided to take on a pretty big challenge and have some fun in the process.
Now, you might ask, “Oh yeah? ‘Professional’ musicians, eh? What makes you think you can play Frank’s music as well as [insert Zappa family member here]?”
Well…you might not have heard of us individually, but you have heard of the people we’ve spent our careers working with (and we don’t mean “I played a 10am slot at a festival once that was headlined by Mr. Big Name Artist Guy”):
Yo Yo Ma, Mick Fleetwood, BB King, REM, Vinnie Colaiuta, Oasis, LA Philharmonic, Madison Symphony, Arthur Barrow, Munich Philharmonic, Camille Zamora, India Arie, Popa Chubby, Limelight: A Tribute To Rush, Pinetop Perkins, Chicago Lyric Opera, Arrested Development, Madison Opera, blah blah blah....you get the idea.
When it came to the music, Frank was constantly changing things, and he allowed his band members to bring their unique voices to the table. He also understood that his live performances were entertainment - it's supposed to be a rock show, not a piano recital.
With that in mind, we don’t think playing Song X from Album Y note-for-note while staring at our shoes is the proper way to go about this.
The result of that approach (combined with a lot of homework and being lucky enough to have a killer complement of musicians) is a show that pays respect to Zappa’s legacy, but is still new and different and dangerous and FUN, with lots of eyebrows.
Kinda like Frank

A true melting pot of musical fusion, with sounds catering to rock, funk, reggae, jamtronica and a multitude of other genre’s, all while stringing them together seamlessly to create a fluid and captivating live performance. Their original songs are nuanced by creative composition, practiced precision, and a looseness that allows them to truly explore the music they create. They have shared the stage with national-touring acts such as The Disco Biscuits, Twiddle, Dopapod, EOTO, The Motet, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Turkuaz, Kung Fu, TAUK, Deep Banana Blackout and more.
