Consider The Source at The Acoustic

Friday May 1st

8PM Doors // 9PM Show // $12 ADV // $15 DOS

Sci-fi fusion trio Consider the Source defy easy categorization. If intergalactic energy beings, upon their initiation into an order of whirling dervishes, built a pan-dimensional booty-shaking engine powered by psychedelic math…it would sound like a cut-rate CTS cover band. With their blend of progressive rock and improvisatory jazz, soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles, CTS blends disparate elements into an utterly original whole. A relentless touring schedule has earned them a fervent following around the world, with fans ranging from jam-band hippies to corpse-painted headbangers.          Their latest album, You Are Literally a Metaphor, is the culmination of a fifteen-year musical journey. Packed with the same fury and dazzling virtuosity of their previous work, Metaphor is also a portrait of three musicians reaching new levels of maturity.

8PM Doors // 9PM Show // $10 Ticket

Conscious, soulful, uplifting, even healing—that’s how many fans of Root Shock have described the band’s infectious sound and energy. With a reputation like that, it’s unsurprising that this group is indebted to reggae, a class of music forever married to love, humanity, social change, and an almost tangible sense of sunlight. But Root Shock didn’t form on a beach. Instead, they came up in snowy Syracuse, New York in 2012, and since then, they’ve developed a voice that transcends genre.

8PM Doors // 9PM Show // $10 ADV // $15 DOS

From their home in Syracuse NY, Sophistafunk has gained international notoriety with their unique combination of live hip hop, funk, and jam music. Last week, after returning from a nearly 4-hour show with 5 encores at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, the guys immediately took off to Connecticut and bought a Mercedes Sprinter tour van. It was yet another new addition for drummer Emanuel Washington, who recently became a first-time father with the birth of his son Onyx this past August.

Valipala
Based in NYC since 2012, Valipala (formerly known as With Snack) tips their hats to the great groove makers of yesteryear while continuing to rethink modern R&B with a union of funk, jazz, and progressive rock. Known for their virtuosic arrangements and animated live shows, a night with Valipala is bound to somehow leave you both exhausted and energized. Valipala’s debut EP, Mango City, will be available October 2017.

The theorem of turntablist as musician has been long proven in the capable hands of DJ Logic, whom with jazz as his foundation has become a wax innovator by crossing genres and mixing his sound across the map. As one of the world’s most accomplished turntablists, DJ Logic is widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip–hop realms and is considered by most as a highly-respected session musician and an innovative bandleader.

Since his emergence in the early nineties amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, the New York City based deejay has been amassing a veritable mountain of collaborations, including a full-fledged band with members of Blues Traveler (The John Popper Project ft. DJ Logic), a trio with Steve Molitz & Freekbass (Headtronics), a jazz project with Georgian prodigy Beka Gochiasvili, and as a member of Grammy-winning Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra’s The Offense of the Drum album. He also has a long list of other collaborations with artists ranging from the likes of Bob Weir, John Mayer, Medeski Martin and Wood, Christian McBride, O.A.R., Carly Simon, Marcus Miller, Jack Johnson, Vernon Reid, Warren Haynes, Charlie Hunter, Jack DeJohnette, Ben Harper, Mos Def, The Roots, Bernie Worrell, Bill Laswell, Melvin Gibbs, Fred Wesley, Sean Kuti and many more.
